Bradford – Mums-to-be are being invited to try an aqua natal class free of charge at their local swimming pool.
Six Bradford council pools are running the classes which will involve 30 minutes of gentle exercise followed by 15 minutes gentle swim/relaxation. The classes will be run by fully qualified instructors.
Studies show that women who exercise during pregnancy are likely to have a shorter labour, return to their pre-pregnancy weight quicker, strengthen their pelvic floor and are less likely to suffer from maternal diabetes.
Coun Imran Khan, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Sport and Leisure, said: “These classes are a wonderful way for pregnant women to unwind, make new friends and stay healthy during pregnancy.
“It’s important that everyone finds time for some exercise. Parents are role models for their children and if exercising is a normal part of life, children will make it part of theirs too.”
Aqua natal classes are available at pools at Bingley, Bowling, Eccleshill, Ilkley, Queensbury and Richard Dunn Sports Centre.
Women must fill in a health screening form before their first class which is free. Forms are available at the pools or by clicking on to www.bradford.gov.uk/swimming and search for aqua natal classes.
Subsequent classes are £3 each and £2 for Passport to Leisure holders.
