A favourite location for many food fans is the now the city centre. Since the opening of the Broadway Shopping Centre and the fantastic success of City Park, Bradford city centre is slowly but gradually becoming a popular destination for shoppers.
Hidden gems are usually hard to find and we were lucky to come across a small café tucked in at the back of the Kirkgate Centre. Opting for very late breakfast, we stumbled across City Café where they were advertising an all-day full English breakfast.
City Café has now been open for four years and is owned by Mr Waseem Ahmed. We were greeted with a warm smile by the young entrepreneur as he directed us to our seats and presented the menu. Packed to the rafters at 12.30pm, the atmosphere was buzzing as customers were tucking into their full English breakfasts, burgers and kebabs.
Mr Ahmed, 29, of Bradford has been in the catering business for most of his working life. Young, energetic and with a passion for food, Mr Ahmed told us about the reasons for him to set up a café in the heart of Bradford.
“I have always been in the catering business but my ambition was to open a healthy option café in Bradford. Most of our food is grilled and cooked to a high standard at affordable prices.
“We have now been open for four years and our customer base is growing every day because of the diverse menu we offer. We offer all-day English breakfast as well as signature fusion dishes.”
As he is called for by his staff as more customers await to be seated, our food arrives. The breakfast platter is huge and intimidating and at a price of £4.49, it is an absolute bargain. My colleague opts for a Go City Burger, which is described as a ‘delicious beef burger topped with a tasty chargrill chicken burger, topped with another mouth-watering beef burger filled with three layers of cheese and our signature city sauce.’ Served with a sizeable portion of fries, the burger comes in at a mere £4.99.
Mr Ahmed continues: “When we set up four years ago, we sensed that Bradford was on the rise again with the Broadway and the other developments that were taking place.
“We wanted to do our little bit in helping resurrect Bradford and hopefully enticing people back into the city centre. It’s the best decision we made as we can now sense a growing buzz in the city centre.”
Other highlights of the menu include Grilled Steaks, Bristo Burgers, Fish & Chips, Lasagne, Hot sandwiches, Paninis, Wraps, Kids Meals, Puddings and Milkshakes.
