The Broadway Shopping Centre helped to kick off the holiday season in Bradford this weekend, as some famous faces drew in thousands for its official Festive Launch.
The Broadway was packed with crowds of people cheering on reigning X Factor champion Matt Terry as he performed alongside fellow former X Factor contestant Christian Burrows and Fame Academy favourite Lemar. Matt and Christian had the enviable task of officially switching on the Centre’s lights
Christian Burrows got the crowd going with three of his own songs, before soul artist Lemar launched into his set with ‘If There’s Any Justice’ and ‘Dance With You.’ To close, Matt Terry brought the house down with four songs, including ‘When Christmas Comes Around’, before taking a selfie with the crowd.
The Festive Launch marks not only the beginning of the Broadway’s festive calendar but also the second anniversary of the official opening of the shopping centre. The event also made Bradford the first city in the UK to switch on its festive lights.
General manager Ian Ward was delighted with the event, saying: “To say the launch has been a success is an understatement. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of support from shoppers and locals who turned up to watch, and it was wonderful to see the city come together to get into the holiday spirit and celebrate this special time of year.
“All the performances from the artists were incredible and the enthusiasm of the crowds went a long way to make our Festive Launch an event not to be forgotten.”
Bobsie Robinson, Culture, Policy and Events Manager at Bradford Council, said: “It has been great to be part of such a wonderful event to start Christmas in Bradford. There will be lots of opportunities for family and friends to celebrate this wonderful time of year, at events both in the city centre and throughout the district during November and December.”
