This month I am pleased to introduce you to Andrea Bird, an EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) Practitioner. EFT is also known as ‘tapping’. It was created by Gary Craig (www.emofree.com) in the 1990’s and is a simple pain free technique, often referred to as psychological acupressure. It helps to remove negative emotions, reduce food cravings, reduce or eliminate pain and implement positive goals.
I first came across EFT in 1999 when I was experiencing anxiety. I had an EFT session with a friend who had trained in EFT and the result was remarkable. The anxiety reduced to nothing. Since then I have used it many times successfully on myself to overcome emotional challenges.
An EFT treatment involves the use of tapping with your finger tips on certain points of your head and body in a specific sequence whilst focusing on a specific statement. There are videos on YouTube. I would recommend you watch Brad Yates www.bradyates.net/videos.html.
Andrea Bird is a wonderful EFT practitioner. She has had amazing results recently teaching my partner EFT to help him deal better with road rage. Here she tells her own story….
“I love Oprah Winfrey’s thoughts that life constantly whispers, or throws you a pebble to get your attention. If you ignore the pebble, eventually it turns into a brick. If you keep ignoring the bricks, your house starts to crumble and fall.
I’m Andrea Bird and I ignored all the little signs and finally acted when it was clear that stress was affecting my chances of starting the family I so longed for. My house, and it seemed like my world, came crashing down, but as is so often the case, the experience changed my life for the better.
After trying many amazing complementary therapies and calming techniques, one has stood the test of time and works for me in a multitude of situations and emotions. It helped me to take back control, stop my dependency on needing an appointment with a practitioner when I felt my stress levels rise, my anxiety increase and my acid reflux re-surface. By incorporating EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques, also known as Tapping) into my daily life, my health and well-being radically improved.
Now, if I hear the whispers, I know that I can listen to them without fear, take their advice and let them go – before they turn into bricks.
Stress is defined as a reaction by the mind and the body in the face of perceived danger. It’s the perception of the danger that makes one person’s blood boil when having to deal with that angry boss, while someone else seems immune. The same person might be completely calm in the face of an insect, while his friend can’t even look at a picture of one without feeling a sense of panic.
Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT, can help you to re-programme your brain’s perception of the danger – the angry boss, emotional teenager, and exam. It can change your ‘fight, flight or freeze’ response, your body’s instinctive protection mechanism.
Tapping on certain acupressure points on the body and hands (some of which you may already be using without knowing it) whilst acknowledging your fear, can help you let go of the intensity of your reaction, gain clarity on how to move forward, even find resolution.
EFT also balances your energy and can have an amazing impact on the situation or even the person with whom you are in conflict. I am still amazed and thrilled to hear when an angry boss or unreasonable teenager isn’t quite so unreasonable anymore, or maybe he doesn’t seem it?
EFT can help clear the brain fog before or during a potentially stress-inducing situation or person. It can help you access a calmer state in the moment, so you don’t have to beat yourself up for what you should have said or done. You can change your fear of ‘What if I can’t?’ open to the possibility of ‘What if I can?’ and even create a future ‘I can’.
EFT also perfectly complements Affirmations and Law of Attraction work. If, like me, you have ever tried an affirmation like ‘I am calm’, but all you could think about was how you weren’t, it’s not that it hasn’t worked. It’s because the Law of Attraction responds to the energy behind your words.
By tapping through the layers, the reasons why you’re not feeling calm/abundant/confident, maybe even having a rant, you can get to a point of saying, ‘I am calm’, ‘I feel confident’, ‘I am grateful for abundance’ and mean it.
I’ve used tapping to help clear my blocks around writing, so I could write the content for my website and this article. It helped me conquer my fear of exams, that originated way back when I was 17, so I could qualify as an EFT Practitioner.
If there’s something in your life you want to change and a little voice says, ‘No you can’t/aren’t good enough’, how about taking it as a sign for something to work on, not something to be annoyed about, to stuff down?
What if you could view your feelings of stress as a sign from your body that something needs to change, that it’s prompting you to heal?
That it doesn’t want you to fight it?
And that you can help yourself?
Tapping complements conventional, alternative or complementary methods and might just help you get your life back on track. But don’t take my word for it, why not give it a try?
If you’re ready to clear deep-rooted anxieties, fears and phobias, I’d recommend working with an EFT Practitioner, like me, who will hold that safe space to enable you to move forward.”
