The UK’s fastest growing cinema operator – The Light – is opening at The Broadway Bradford on Friday 11th May. This will be The Light’s tenth cinema in the UK and the second in Yorkshire, alongside Sheffield.
The growing success and popularity of The Light cinemas with the public is down to its unique take on the spirit of traditional, independent cinemas and bringing that into a modern environment. Much-admired for their luxuriously designed reclining seats and ample leg room and being able to enjoy beverages from the bar and café at the seats – The Light Bradford promises to offer an experience unlike any other in the city.
The founders behind the new cinema group set the business up to challenge the existing multiplex chains by focusing on premium quality and high customer service. The Light is on a mission to introduce a different cinema experience, creating a new concept that responds to the growing popularity of cinema in the UK. It has plans to open 20 more cinemas in the next four years.
The Light CEO Keith Pullinger said: “We are delighted to be joining The Broadway Centre and becoming part of the success of this thriving destination. We look to create a cinema environment that feels luxurious with plenty of atmosphere and personality, so we hope the Bradford audiences will notice a different cinema experience. The foyer is designed as a social space featuring a bar serving national and local beers, great wine and coffee and a varied selection of high quality food.”
Situated alongside The Broadway, The Light Bradford cinema has six screens with all specially designed reclining seats that are significantly wider than the average cinema seat for extra comfort. All screens will be fully licensed with seats featuring side tables for food and beverages.
Ian Ward, general manager of The Broadway, added: “We’re all thrilled The Light has made The Broadway Bradford its tenth home. Not only will it provide new jobs but it serves as a further boost to Bradford’s City Centre regeneration, giving people even more reasons to come and visit.
“Customers can also benefit from the reduced parking of £1 after 5pm and well as our weekend rates at £1.50 all day, helping Bradford City to become the go-to-choice for cinema lovers, theatre goers and shoppers alike.”
The Light will be showing the latest blockbusters, independent films, live opera, ballet, theatre and classical, rock and pop concerts. It is also able to offer flexibility programming for requests from local communities and societies and to support local film events and productions. The cinema welcomes all groups: it is wheelchair friendly, films can be audio described or subtitled, it is baby friendly, and can ensure that the specific needs of those with dementia or autism are catered for.
There are membership schemes as well; an Infinity pass costs just £16.95 per month and gives unlimited access to films. There is a great pre-opening offer on Infinity where you can get the first three months at just £12.95.
Film goers can also join the cinema’s free membership scheme MyLight, which provides discounted online prices and regular offers.
